About Austin Kooba

Career highlights past and present

Dr. Austin Kooba, MD, is an obstetrician and gynecologist from Solana Beach, California, with over 20 years of experience. He graduated with a medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Denver. Later, Dr. Austin Kooba, MD, attended the Medical University of South Carolina, where he completed his internship and residency.

After graduating, Dr. Kooba joined The Permanente Medical Group in Santa Rosa, California, as an education lead in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. He served in various other roles, including as a menopause and contraception class instructor, instructor for family medicine physicians in gynecologic diagnosis and procedure, wound infection and surgical safety chair, and physician director of the certified nurse-midwifery program.

Besides his work at The Permanente Medical Group, Dr. Kooba was an associate clinical professor and founding faculty at Touro University Medical School in Santa Rosa. In addition, Dr. Austin Kooba, MD, was an associate clinical professor at the University of California San Francisco. He also served as a COVID-19 consultant for the Napa Valley Food Bank, Catholic Charities in Napa, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Calistoga, California.

Dr. Kooba also has experience in medical research and publication. During his training, he authored two scientific studies - one on amniotic fluid values after premature rupture of membranes and related perinatal infection risks and another on using microscopic tears to evaluate cases of sexual assault.
